Bergama

"Bergama is the main trading centre for numerous villages and settlements in the surrounding area, of which there are about seventy to eighty rug weaving communities. Well-known types of rugs include the 'Kiz Bergama', apparently bridal rugs made by young girls on their betrothal. (See Balikesir, Kiz Bergama, Kozak and Soma.)Capital of a vilayet on the west north-west Aegean coast. It has been an important carpet town for many centuries. Rugs normally in the ceyrek and seccade (prayer rug) sizes, rarely larger. Good workmanship and designs. " - from Oriental Rugs Volume 4 - Turkish by K.Zipper & C.Fritzsche
